Fallen heroes
Last couple of months have been pretty hard in terms of DM , taking time off work, (forever) fatigue .. to name a few. When you are sitting alone at home while the entire world is off to work, it can get pretty lonely and depressing. I try to overcome this by keeping myself busy with something or the other. My most favourite activity is to read inspirational stories. It works every time and gets me out of that couch !
So it was a complete shock to read about Lance Armstrong and the USADA's decision to strip all his Tour de france titles ! With more and more evidence coming up, it looks fishy. The "win at all cost" mentality of sport athletes I feel is not just restricted to sports, but I think it is pretty relevant for all walks of life. I have seen / heard of people going to any extent to achieve their goals. I feel really sad to hear about such incidents.
Coming back to Lance .. I feel it still doesn't diminish his aura. He is truly inspirational and will forever remain a hero to me. I still remember how I bought his book "it's not about the bike". I was stuck for my doc's appointment and was about to wait for couple of hours on a stretch. I decided to take a walk outside and have a cup of coffee. While roaming I saw the book cover outside a book stall near the railway station. Believe me, of all places in Mumbai .. the outside of a railway station is the least likely place to find any inspiration. Usually I am almost sprinting to get out of the railway stations in Mumbai !
By the time my appointment finished, I had read enough to be inspired for a lifetime !
Ciao n Peace.
